Over the years, I’ve come up with a saying for my town:
“It is perfect, when you look at it from above.”
Ok, so it’s not much of a saying, and someone else probably came up with a similar idea, but it’s my line nonetheless. And it is usually meant for the moments when you stand on the top of mountain Vodno, at night, and look at the beautiful view of the city. Well, not anymore…
Not far from “Aleksandar Palace” Hotel and only 15 minutes drive from the city center, you will find the “Stenkovec” Airport, used only by small aircrafts, home of the “Aero Klub” Skopje. Take a flight around the city with one of the Cessna’s and you’ll see the meaning of my words.
The flight usually takes around 15-20 minutes. It takes you from the lakes of “Treska” and “Matka”, around the Millennium Cross at Vodno, circling over the City Center and the City Park and back to the airport. A maximum of three people may hop on the plane, but before you do, take notice of these three things:
1. Don’t eat before flight,
2. Bring your camera,
3. Call “Shotgun” (sit next to the driver).
Why no.3 you ask..? Because the pilot will let you fly the plane. Sure, only for a moment, and sure the others will hate you because:
a) you will be flying a plane, and
b) you will make them sick with your flying skills,
but you’ll be feeling awesome!!!

One of the new things to do in town on lazy nights is American Bowling. We had our fair share of Bowling Arenas here, but they were all European style, with a small balls that are harder to maneuver, and the lanes didn’t have all those flashy lights and sounds for every strike or miss.
The new arena “Bo Bowling”, is located on the last floor of the Skopje City Mall, right next to the Cinema. It’s very spacious, with ten lanes plus a huge bar and plenty of room to sit, dance and enjoy, even if you are not playing. They serve drinks and food at the lanes, or you can order something afterwards. I’m usually sticking to Beer and Nachos with the guys, plain and simple. After all, we’re here for the Sport and the Trash Talk.
So go on, get your bowling shoes at the desk and start throwing.
p.s. You might want to warm up first, because your throwing hand and knee will kill you the next day.

One thing that this city doesn’t have, and since there are a bunch of motorheads living here it seems like it really needs it, is a race track. A place where all the adrenaline junkies can go and burn the tires from their precious cars and bikes. Since there aren’t any plans for building something like that in the near future, we are left with something less spectacular, but still great fun, race carting at ART Karting Center.
It’s placed just outside the Sports Arena “Boris Trajkovski”. Helmets and under caps are given at the track, so there is no need for you to bring anything else but your racing spirit. There can be up to three vehicles on the track at the same time and each one of your laps is being timed. In the end, you get a time list with your laps, so you can compare it with your compatriots and see who’s the better driver, while drinking beer at the bar. Also, the bar is nicely positioned so that your friends can cheer for you while you’re racing. Please be aware, drinking and driving is not allowed.
