Concert of Nicolas Altstaedt at Philharmonic

German cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, one of the most sought-after instrumentalists on the world music scene, will perform at the Philharmonic on Thursday (October 31, 2009) at 20h. On the program is the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Miacheslav Weinberg and “The Wonderful Mandarin” by Bartok, one of the most remarkable works in world music history. Alen Buribayev from Kazakhstan will conduct the orchestra.
German cellist Nicolas Altstaedt is one of the most sought-after instrumentalists on the world music scene. He performs as a soloist and conductor, and his repertoire is extensive and encompasses works from all musical eras. He has performed with world-class orchestras and collaborated with conductors such as Eka Peca Salonen, Sir Neville Mariner, Vladimir Ashkenazi, Gustavo Dudamel … and the Weinberg Orchestra, an anti-formalist work that was locked in the composer’s drawer until Stalin’s death.
